WHAT IS GMAT?

The GMAT exam checks student's knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data analysis, and grammar. It measures student's ability to comprehend, analyze and evaluate written material, think critically, and solve problems. The GMAT is to get an insight into of student's critical thinking skills.

WHAT ARE THE GMAT SECTIONS?

The GMAT™ Exam Has Four Sections:
  • Analytical Writing Assessment—measures student's ability to think critically and their ability to communicate ideas. The Analytical Writing Assessment section helps business schools analyze student's writing skills. Both check essays, a human grader and a computer grading system, and the two scores returned by these two are averaged for student's final score. If the grades differ significantly, then another human tester reads and scores the essay. Analytical Writing Assessment is scored separately, and this score is not used to generate a 200–800-point score.
  • Student's will be presented with a brief argument similar to a paragraph they will find in a question related to critical reasoning in the verbal section for the writing task. Students are tasked to critique the author's argument and to analyze the soundness of the author's evidence and reasoning.

  • When scoring this section, human essay graders are looking for whether a student can clearly identify and analyze all parts of the argument, develop and organize ideas thoughtfully and logically, and connect statements with clear transitions.
  • Integrated Reasoning—measures student's ability to analyze data and evaluate information presented in multiple formats
  • Quantitative Reasoning— measures students’ ability to analyze data and draw conclusions using reasoning skill. The GMAT Quantitative section is made to test student's analytical knowledge of mathematical concepts, which includes arithmetic, number properties, algebra, and geometry.
  • Verbal Reasoning—measures student's ability to read, understand and evaluate written arguments and to correct written material to the standard written English the GMAT Verbal section is made to test students' command of written English and skills in analyzing arguments and reading critically.
Students will get three types of question in this section:

CRITICAL REASONING

Critical Reasoning questions test skills in making and evaluating arguments and formulating a plan of action. The student will be presented with a short discussion or a few statements and will be asked related question. Success in critical reasoning requires understanding the structure of arguments and skill in logical analysis of connection between evidence and conclusions.

SENTENCE CORRECTION

In GMAT Sentence Correction, student will get long sentences. A part of paragraph or all the sentences will be underlined, and the student will be asked to give the best version of the underlined section out of the original content or present with one of four alternatives. The sentence may contain zero errors, or it may include some errors.

READING COMPREHENSION
Reading comprehension is designed to test critical reading skills and ability to summarize an idea, and skills required differentiate between ideas stated specifically and those implied by the author, and ability in making inferences based on information provided in a passage, analyze the logical structure of a passage, and deduce the tone and attitude of a topic. Students will be presented with an academic reading passage on a matter related to business, social science and science, and are asked 3–4 questions about that text.
